Felix Family :: JOE FELIX

Joseph Donald Felix (1921 – 2004) was born in his grandparent’s home on Bronson Avenue in Hollywood California. His performing parents spent much time on the road and several years in Hawaii, so Joe was raised by his Italian immigrant grandparents. He, like his son John, often had a pencil and piece of paper as companion when he was a child. His drawing of ---- on display here is done on paper from his Papa’s cobbler shop.

Joe became a talented and sought after jazz pianist, playing for several years at Hollywood’s Little Club and at many nightclubs in Palm Springs including the Chi Chi Club. He accompanied Jack Jones and played with Harry James and Benny Carter among many others.

As an amateur artist Joe sketched futuristic notions of planes and automobiles, a nude of his first wife and a self-portrait done as a young soldier during WWII
